ORIENTEERINGFOREST RUNNING

11/23/2023

For some years now I have been in a orienteering only mode. (Orienteering - the sport where you are speed-navigating the wilderness with map and compass.) It was good, no unnessesary monotonous running along a boring road.

Because of several reasons, I am now running both orienteering and other trailrunning activities. Even some races. This combination I call a "forest detour" - the main goal is not to have so much goal. To seek imperfection. To get to catch anything instead of always miss that something. Always with the main focus - go out in the forest, and run.

One way to actually be able to get out is that I made it into a project. Filming things along the way, mostly without exact plans of how to use it. Editing and putting it on YouTube made it... well, fun. Great to have something captured to look at later, besides my own memories. And running became more a exploration than achieving. The former has always engaged me, the latter has been stressing and made me tired. And this is not nessesarily exploring new areas of the forest, more like seeing new things in the old known forests, with the camera comes new perspective I had to find for myself.

The feeling of having so little time leads to a yearning to capture as much as I can when I am out in the forest, running. It may be stupid to try to save things like a feeling in a video, or like in this blog, in a text. But I try it anyway and later on I will see what it leads up to.

After a week with a mild infection, I will finally run tomorrow. It's snowing now. It may be beautiful outside. It might be a great run.
